 RMSA (Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan)-2009

The Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan is a flagship scheme of Government of India, launched in March, 2009, to enhance access to secondary education and improve its quality.

RMSA is centrally sponsored scheme to achieve the universalization of Secondary Education.

The Scheme ICT in School (2004) was added in RMSA in 2009.

Goal & Objectives

ü  Establishing Secondary School within a radius of 5kms.

ü  The scheme envisages achieving a gross enrolment ratio of 75% from 52.26% in 2005-06 for classes IX-X within 5 years of its implementation, by providing a secondary school within reasonable distance of any habitation.

ü  Improve the quality of education imparted at secondary level by making all secondary schools conform to prescribed norms.

ü  Remove gender, socio-economic and disability barriers.

ü  Provide universal access to secondary level education by 2017, i.e. by the end of the 12th Five Year Plan

ü  To achieve  universal retention by 2020

ü  Providing necessary physical facilities, teaching and non – teaching staff for every secondary school

ü  To see that no student shall be deprived of secondary education because of gender disparity, socio economic reasons, disability or any other reasons.

Provisions under RMSA

The following provisions has been provided under the Scheme RMSA

Physical Facilities

·         Additional class rooms

·         Laboratories

·         Libraries

·         Art and crafts room

·         Toilet blocks

·         Drinking water provisions

·         Residential Hostels for Teachers in remote areas.

Quality Interventions

·         Appointment of additional teachers to reduce PTR to 30:1

·         Focus on Science, Math and English education

·         In-service training of teachers

·         Science laboratories

·         ICT enabled education

·         Curriculum reforms

·         Teaching learning reforms

·         In Service Training

Equity Intervention

·         Special focus in micro planning,

·         Preference to areas with concentration of SC/ST/minority for opening of schools, 

·         Special enrolment drive for the weaker section,

·         More female teachers in schools and 

·         Separate toilet blocks for girls.

Implementations

·         In-service Training for Professional Development -2716 subject teachers (Tamil, English, Math, Science and Social Science) were given In service training to update the knowledge and teaching competency at the approval outlay of 18.09 lakhs.

·         10 days training was conducted for the teachers from August to December 2016.

·         Mathematics Teaching through computers and Science

·         Training was given by Subject Experts, DIET faculties and Resource Persons aided by Subject wise ITPD Modules (NCERT&SCERT Modules)

·         PPT pr Power Point Presentation CD’s and Animated CD’s given to all teachers. Presentation NCERT, RMSA Cell ITPD SCERT Training modules were revised based on State Board Syllabus for IX and X in consultation with University Professor, DIET Faculties, Experts, Eminent Educationists, Experienced Subject Teachers.

·         The training was focused on Practical Oriented teaching learning strategies and to promote students’ confidence in mathematics, curiosity, freedom and belief in doing mathematics

·         School Leadership Development Programme (SLDP)
